Description
Stainless steel sheet AISI 409 1.0x1000x2000 mm – 2B surface
Stainless steel sheet AISI 409 (EN 1.4512), thickness 1.0 mm, dimensions 1000×2000 mm, 2B surface finish. AISI 409 is a ferritic, low-alloy stainless steel type with ~11% chromium, stabilized with titanium additives. Main application – components for exhaust systems where high-temperature resistance (up to 600°C) is important.
AISI 409 is one of the most economical types of stainless steel, but its corrosion resistance is lower than that of AISI 304. Due to titanium stabilization, it welds excellently and is used for manufacturing exhaust pipes, catalyst housings, and gas tracks for cars and trucks.
Areas of application
- Automotive and truck exhaust systems
- Catalytic converter housings
- Chimneys for heating devices and stoves
- Temperature-stressed parts of agricultural machinery
- Industrial environments requiring low corrosion resistance

Frequently Asked Questions
How does AISI 409 differ from AISI 430?
AISI 409 has less chromium (~11% vs 16–18%), resulting in lower corrosion resistance but better thermal fatigue resistance. 409 is used more in vehicles, while 430 is used in household appliances.
Is AISI 409 suitable for TIG welding?
Yes, titanium stabilization allows for good welding quality. Use ER409 or ER430Ti wire.
Is it suitable for outdoor environments?
Limited – AISI 409 is resistant to moderate humidity but not to salty or acidic environments.
